5 ways to undermine your growth on LinkedIn.

No matter how you look at it Linkedin remains one of most influential social media platforms.Aside from it's growing patronage among professional class and business leaders, the platforms provides invaluable opportunities for  learning and development.

The above notwithstanding, it is important to note that certain actions or inaction s of us may undermine our ability to leverage the huge opportunities this blue platform provides.

In this piece I share few.

1.Posting without positioning:Brand positioning is critical to both the professional and the algorithm. The algorithm needs to understand where it can place your content and who would be interested in having your content on their feed. Without a clearly defined brand positioning, you may fail to make the impact required impact on this platform. Personally, I have positioned as one that provokes social conversations in community. Alot of my most successful contents have achieved by consistent in provoking these kinds of conversation.

2.Spraying and praying:This attitude reflects a tactical approach. In this context, it includes posting without any clear benchmarks or strategies in mind.Approaching LinkedIn with the same tone, attitude and template as other social platforms will not cut it in the long term.

3.Posting without connecting :LinkedIn is more social than professional. You need to take interest in other people to be successful. Staying off other people's contents and their perspectives undermine your own growth on LinkedIn. Linkedin is more about connection than attention. It  may be easy to draw attention to your post but until you engage with other people's post, your reach and impact on this platform will be limited.

4.Doing as others do: Sometimes your biggest arsenal or differentiator is your ability to take a contrarian view on matters. This is a unique trait that stands out masterful creators from average users. Staying contrarian and assertive builds authenticity and credibility. By this, you tell the algorithm that you are not here to support popular stereotypes or to pander to sycoohancy. Being contraian stands you out, making it inevitable to be noticed.

5.Choosing intensity over consistency:There are a few of us that abandons the platform for weeks only load it with excessive contents once we pick up from where we left. This does not work in the real world of LinkedIn. Here, consistency is key. That is the only way you can be current and relevant. People want to see a little of you every day than all of you once. Being intense is aggressive whilst being consistent is assertive. Consistency builds a sense of anticipation and connection among your community, helping the algorithm to more certain and predictable about your behavior.

Conclusions.

LinkedIn is as social as it is professional. It therefore rewards consistently socially professional. Truly how you win on Linkedin is no different from how you win in the professional context.
