Six ACID TESTS FOR ASSESSSING YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE

Image
Six ACID TESTS FOR ASSESSSING YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE ‘‘You are the light of this world: A city that is set on heal cannot be hidden.’’ Matthew 5:14 Having a brand presence Having a presence on social media differ from being present on social media. Indeed, just because someone is in a place does not mean they are fully and actively alive in that location. In the real world, there could be several reasons for which a person may enter a place. Some people may be at an event by just accompanying their friends and not truly knowing anyone at the said event. These people, under this circumstance, are usually tensed, recoiling to their shells, except they have an exceptionally outgoing personality, which make them cry louder than the bereaved. While everyone can be present on social media, not everyone can have social media presence. Social media presence is about having a standing and not just a status. In this piece, I am painstakingly relating how these two constructs differ. ...

AI, Marketing and Everything In Between

Image
Yesterday, I had the rare privilege of taking some students through the impact of Artificial intelligence on Public Relations. Since the new phenomenon has a wide impact on the broader Marketing Communication, I thought I could expand the conversation beyond the realm of public relations in this article.    This is exactly what I have tried doing in this article. Historically, technology and its advancements has served to impact how marketing Communication is done and most importantly how organizations engage with their stakeholders. We cannot but accept that technology determines how far businesses can go in their bid to create, build and sustain their relationship with their stakeholders. Without a doubt, the advent of social media and internet have even impacted some theories that underlie marketing communications. In all dimensions, social media provide other layers of touchpoints, allowing customers to own content creation, distribution and amplification. Some ba...

4 reasons why a one-cap-fit-all approach to Stakeholder engagement always fails.

Image
Studies have shown that poor management of stakeholder engagement is the cause of many projects failure. Despite this proven body of knowledge that acknowledges the inevitability of stakeholder engagement in any project undertaking, some entities, being private or public, continue to develop and implement projects without recourse to the typology of stakeholder engagement, which includes, Stakeholder identification, Stakeholder analysis, Stakeholder engagements and Stakeholder Communications. On the contrary, these entities adopt a one-cap-fit all approach to engaging their stakeholders. In this article, four reasons why the one-cap-fit-all approach should be avoided in stakeholder engagements are provided. Diversity of Stakeholders : Firstly, the one-cap fit all approach to stakeholder engagement is counterproductive. This is because stakeholder groups differ in expectations, needs, and wants. Using the one-cap-fit all approach will deny project managers the opportunity to u...

5 (Five) Reasons why Public Relations must be paid for and controlled

Image
My thesis for this piece is simple: PR must be paid for and controlled. Two of the biggest lies they teach in PR class is this: ''1.PR is not paid for'' 2.''PR is uncontrolled media''. Proponents of this logically depraved philosophy have reasoned that Public Relations is assumed to be credible, as companies don't pay for or have control over how their publications or contents are shared, distributed or even the prominence with which such contents are treated. This line of thinking is not just logically vacuous, but it is truly out of touch with realities of the practice. Unfortunately, this line of thinking has invariably affected practitioners, both in terms of their role in the organizational hierarchy and the resources that are assigned to them. From my experience in Agency and corporate, i know the Public Relations Department is the most deprived of all the departments. In fact, PR is the only department, people only relate to base on their per...

The Oswald’s Experience :Five Themes I am picking out as a Marketing Communications Student /Professional

Image
Background  In his quest to get his mother to make his Our Day ceremony a lively one, Oswald, a nine-year-old basic school pupil, wrote a letter to the mother, stating, in clearest vivacity what he needed the mother to get for his teacher, mates and himself, on that day. The letter, by the stroke of faith and events found itself on Twitter, went viral, prompting a deluge of responses from individuals and companies, from different industries. It has generated thousands of organic visibility and engagements for companies that otherwise, will ordinarily struggle to garner much user engagements for their social media and digital activities. Indeed, the boy’s viral letter is not only relevant for the buzz, visibility and countless user-generated conversations same generated, but most importantly, the hullabaloo that characterized the whole episode has since pitted brands/marketing and communications professionals against each other. Whereas some professionals feel some companies had no...

Oswald: The Boy who taught me these Five leadership lessons with his daring ‘Our Day’ request.

Image
I will not be alone in the maze and craze of spontaneity, jumping onto this social media trend. Spontaneity comes with our job, as writers and bloggers. For us, it is only natural that we leverage trending issues of national and popular appeal. So, my accusers should spare myself and all the other media outlets who have made Oswald and his celebrated Teacher an overnight social media sensation. The truth be told, this matter is not one that I would have ordinarily paid attention to or squeezed time off my schedule to write about. Yes, a boy has written a letter to the mum, (Image Attached), instructing her to take keen note of every slightest detail, regarding the items he needs for his ‘Our Day’ ceremony. How does that affect me or why should that even be a subject worthy of social media trends?  This was my preliminary disposition until I chanced upon the trends on Twitter. To be honest, unlike many, I only took keen attention, when upon my curious search, I found out ...
