The Oswald’s Experience :Five Themes I am picking out as a Marketing Communications Student /Professional

Image
Background  In his quest to get his mother to make his Our Day ceremony a lively one, Oswald, a nine-year-old basic school pupil, wrote a letter to the mother, stating, in clearest vivacity what he needed the mother to get for his teacher, mates and himself, on that day. The letter, by the stroke of faith and events found itself on Twitter, went viral, prompting a deluge of responses from individuals and companies, from different industries. It has generated thousands of organic visibility and engagements for companies that otherwise, will ordinarily struggle to garner much user engagements for their social media and digital activities. Indeed, the boy’s viral letter is not only relevant for the buzz, visibility and countless user-generated conversations same generated, but most importantly, the hullabaloo that characterized the whole episode has since pitted brands/marketing and communications professionals against each other. Whereas some professionals feel some companies had no...

Oswald: The Boy who taught me these Five leadership lessons with his daring ‘Our Day’ request.

Image
I will not be alone in the maze and craze of spontaneity, jumping onto this social media trend. Spontaneity comes with our job, as writers and bloggers. For us, it is only natural that we leverage trending issues of national and popular appeal. So, my accusers should spare myself and all the other media outlets who have made Oswald and his celebrated Teacher an overnight social media sensation. The truth be told, this matter is not one that I would have ordinarily paid attention to or squeezed time off my schedule to write about. Yes, a boy has written a letter to the mum, (Image Attached), instructing her to take keen note of every slightest detail, regarding the items he needs for his ‘Our Day’ ceremony. How does that affect me or why should that even be a subject worthy of social media trends?  This was my preliminary disposition until I chanced upon the trends on Twitter. To be honest, unlike many, I only took keen attention, when upon my curious search, I found out ...

”Lordship” of Landlords in Accra

Image
Anytime, you raise  concerns about house tenancy in Ghana, especially Accra, it appears all the buffers that should ordinarily support the ordinary person are  dormant. Some Landlords are indeed preying on their innocent tenants, in a way that one cannot easily understand.Sad still, the laws that ought to be implemented, continue to stir us in the face as our leaders look helpless in their inability to cause sanity to prevail. Gradually, the culture of the ”Lordship of Landlords” is fast becoming institutionalized, as people, having no option, remain mute , in the face of stark injustice, insensitivity and abuse perpetrated against them by Landlords. Survival in this part of the world, as a young man/woman seeking a little comfort and decency is gradually becoming utopian, if not how on earth will a national Service personnel on an erratic allowance be able to cough up GH 300-500 per month for two years advance payment to  landlord, when in most cases, they may not...

5 Unproductive Ways of Resolving Matter/Conflict:

Image
Conflicts are inevitable part of us as humans. As we deal with the infallibilities of each other, conflict becomes inevitable. This notwithstanding, we can always manage conflicts and glean the better side of it, rather than make it negative and obstructive. In every human endeavor, be it relationships, customer relations, marriages, business transactions, many but to mention, a few, conflicts rear its heard, sometimes, leaving ugly trails behind it. To the extent that people can hold contradictory opinions on how things must or should be done, we should not be surprised that conflicts will always exist among people, societies and even countries. Interestingly, even identical twins, can vehemently share their own doses of disagreements. This means the odds of conflicts cannot even be overcome through blood. Interestingly, conflicts are not just external. It is as much an internal construct, as it is external. Internally, we continue to battle with and over issues tha...

How the leading Media organizations used website to report 2020's General Elections in Ghana

Image
Introduction I have been monitoring how some leading media outlets in Ghana, i.e 3news,Citinewsroom, Myjoyonline and Peacefmonline, are capturing outcome of the elections on their websites. Why website? I deem websites more credible, secured and referenceable than social media posts. Findings: 3news The website claims update is done every second but there is no data in their designated portals. Infact, the contrary is the case. Citinewsroom The case is no different from Citinewsroom. Their Election Bureau portal takes forever to load. Data entry is non existent. Myjoyonline: Cumbersome and chequered. Not navigable, making it difficult for one to interpret the data therein. Peacefmonline.com I doff my hat for Peacefmonline. They have been a Masterclass in election coverage. Their website is creditably navigable and up to speed.
